Elephant Ears
This morning, I was out and about
when all around me, “elephant ears” sprout;
that it’s amazing, there is no doubt
but where is that giant trunk-like snout?

Decisions
Pic by Marue Outdoor
The snow is early, hushing up the land;
a cloak of silence’s unrelenting grip.
It seems the sun has failed to understand
the consequences of its yearly trip.
Sequestered by the snow, the open hill
idyllic once but now so desolate;
assailed by wintry winds that wail and chill,
the trembling trees lie low till they abate.
The river flows, undaunted by the cold;
it has to leave this bleak and dreary place
while others stay not daring to be bold
in fear of retributions they may face.
To leave or stay, there must be no remorse;
Indeed, in life a man decides his course.

Aborted Attack
We crossed paths with this flock of geese at a farm recently. They became agitated and were honking loudly with necks outstretched and wings in the air. Just when we thought they were going to attack, the little gosling calmly led them away from us.

Pitcher Plant
No, this is not a slipper orchid but a pitcher plant. During my younger days, we were told that this is a monkey’s cup but I have to admit that I have never seen a monkey drink from it.
